DYLEMA is a British-Nigerian multidisciplinary artist, poet, performer and storyteller whose work explores identity, migration, self-determination and the experience of being different. For over two decades, she has built a creative practice that moves between visual art, poetry, music and live performance. Her journey has taken her from spoken-word stages and jazz performance to portraiture and contemporary fine art, with work presented at major cultural institutions, galleries and across broadcast media. At the centre of DYLEMA's work is the human story. Her paintings are bold, intimate studies of identity and presence, often drawing from African heritage, personal memory and the complexities of becoming oneself. Working across painting, wood, canvas and mixed materials, she approaches each piece as more than an image: it is an object carrying a story. The name DYLEMA comes from the idea of “Do You” — a philosophy of choosing one's own identity rather than accepting the identity the world assigns. This philosophy runs throughout her practice. Her work is concerned with people who exist outside convention: the migrant, the outsider, the artist, the visibly different and the person determined to define themselves on their own terms.
